How It Works

PriceWitness is being built to do one thing well: show you whether the price you were charged matches the price you were shown.

  1. Photograph the shelf tagWhile you shop, use the PriceWitness app to take a quick photo of the shelf tag for each item you want checked. Make sure the price and item number are both clear in the photo.
  2. Bring in your receiptOnce your digital receipt is ready, add it to the app.
  3. See what matchesPriceWitness compares the two and shows you what checks out, and anything worth a second look.

Every check ends one of four ways

  • Charged as shownThe receipt matches the shelf price.
  • Possible overchargeThe two prices may not match. Worth a quick second look.
  • Possible underchargeThe two prices may not match, in your favor.
  • Not enough to tellThe app couldn't compare these on its own, so it shows you the shelf photo to check against your receipt.

If PriceWitness finds a possible overcharge, it puts the shelf photo, its date and time, and the matching receipt line together on one screen, ready to show the store's customer service desk.
